Robert Cowans is a cybersecurity and digital risk executive who excels at navigating the intersection of aviation, enterprise security, and emerging technology. As Manager of Cybersecurity, Threat Management & Investigations at an airline, Robert directs a specialized team that drives incident response, investigates insider threats, and conducts digital forensics.
Throughout his career, Robert modernized aviation security operations, drove the enterprise-wide adoption of AI-powered Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) technologies. He operationalized NIST and MITRE ATT&CK frameworks, and embedded machine learning into threat detection workflows. He designed multi-location forensic infrastructure, launched a Threat Intelligence Platform to turn raw data into actionable intelligence, and authored executive-level cyber-readiness tabletop exercises to strengthen leadership response to evolving threats.
Previously, Robert worked as a Computer Forensics Analyst with the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). He led support for federal and law enforcement operations across South Florida and the Caribbean. He participated in the elite Human Exploitation Rescue Operative (HERO) program. He built his career on six years of distinguished service in the United States Army.
Robert earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Forensics & Digital Investigations from Champlain College. He pursues Carnegie Mellon University’s Chief Data & AI Officer (CDAIO) Executive Certification. He maintains the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designation and holds an active Secret security clearance. Robert led Cyversity as Chapter President, advancing diversity in cybersecurity.
